How to Cleanse Your Mind of Negative Thoughts

Oftentimes, negative thoughts can creep into our day-to-day life and cause a little bump in our lives. Negative thoughts can affect our drive and our ability to navigate through lifes tasks as fluidly as wed like. Negative thoughts can affect our sleep, motivation, productivity, emotional strength, and stability. Negative energy can pull us down physically, mentally, and emotionally. The unconscious mind works in such powerful ways and negative thoughts can diminish our happiness and make us feel badly about certain things in our life. If youre feeling down or overrun by negative thoughts, read on for some guidance on overcoming this obstacle.

Before you can address negative energy, you need to be aware of it. I’ve spoken to so many women who are so used to talking to themselves negatively they aren’t even aware of their patterns of negative self-talk. So, without judgment, just become aware of how you talk to yourself as you move throughout your day.

The most effective way to cleanse your mind of negative energy is finding the source of your negativity; more-so, the root of what is directly causing these negative thoughts to surface. Ask yourself, what is causing me to have these negative thoughts? If you’re like me, you’ll find deeper happiness hidden within the solution to your answer.

Find a quiet place to sit and reflect. Take a few deep breaths, close your eyes, and reflect on the root of your negative thoughts. Without judgment, allow yourself to consider how this thought is affecting you. How does it make you feel?

At this point, decide what you would like to replace your negative thought with. In The 5 Second Rule, Mel Robbins talks about using anchor thoughts as a powerful tool to prevent your negative beliefs from growing into deeper worries or stress. One reason they work is because they keep you anchored to the present moment.

Choose your own anchor thought. Perhaps it is a word or phrase, an action, or a happy memory. Take a big breath and imagine yourself releasing the tension and negative thought from your head to your toes. Visualize the tension exiting your body as you release your negative energy and replace that space with your anchor thought. Intentionally replacing negative self-talk with positive self-talk is a powerful tool to help rid yourself of these negative thoughts.

Pause for a few moments and just take a few deep breaths as you absorb the empty space of negativity that has left your body. This may take as little as 3 minutes or as long as 8-10 minutes. However long it takes, ensuring you have completely detached from the negative thought is important. Any stranded thoughts can resurface into the negative energy you are working at resolving, so come back to this practice when you need to.

Print out this post and leave it on your desk or refrigerator. Anytime you feel negative energy creeping your way, commit to this quick yet effective technique to help cleanse your mind!
